From January to 15th October 2024, we welcomed a remarkable 1,030,863 visitors, nearly matching the pre-pandemic high of the same period 2019. This rebound is a testament to the island's irresistible allure and robust hospitality sector. As we head into the bustling final quarter, we are optimistic about finishing the year strong, with total arrivals projected to attain 1.4 million.
Average Length of Stay
Mauritius is not just attracting more visitors in 2024, but they are also staying longer! The average length of stay from January to September, has increased to 11.6 nights in 2024, up from 10.8 nights in 2019. This trend underscores our island’s growing appeal as a destination for extended relaxation and immersive exploration.
Tourism Earnings
From January to August 2024, tourism earnings soared to MUR 58,504 million, significantly up from MUR 40,742 million in 2019 for the same period. Building on a strong performance in 2023, where earnings for the year reached MUR 85,993 million, 2024 is poised to surpass expectations exceeding the MUR 90 billion mark. This impressive growth reflects travellers’ growing desire to extend their stays and immerse themselves in Mauritius' vibrant culture, breathtaking landscapes, and world-class hospitality.
Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF)
In 2024, GFCF is projected to reach MUR 11,210 million, a substantial increase from MUR 4,970 million in 2019. This surge showcases our ongoing commitment to investing in infrastructure, hospitality, and tourism development, securing Mauritius’ position as a premier global destination. The rise from MUR 7,994 million in 2023 to the anticipated figures in 2024 highlights our proactive approach to enhancing visitor experiences and reinforcing our thriving tourism sector.
