Over the past decades, the manufacturing industry has played an instrumental role in the economic diversification and transformation of Mauritius. Today, the industry represents 12,87% to our GVA. Continuous innovation and adherence to international norms have contributed to position Mauritius among the Top 5 countries in Africa in the UNCTAD Productive Capacities Index (2023). This tool measures the ability of a country to produce goods and services that will help it grow and develop. Today, Mauritius is exporting some 1,500 product lines to 115 countries worldwide and has earned a good name as a high quality and reliable supplier to global brands through continuous innovation in different sectors.

In 2023, total exports of goods reached MUR 83,7 Bn, driven primarily by domestic exports (MUR 61,5 Bn). Re-exports contributed to MUR 23,2 Bn.

Top 10 Exports Markets (2023)
Mauritius exports to South Africa accounts for 13% of its total domestic exports. Textiles and apparel constitutes the principal export to this market. The United Kingdom follows closely as the second-largest export destination for Mauritius, representing 12% of its total domestic exports. Preserved fish, apparel, and cane sugar are the primary Mauritian exports to the United Kingdom.
